What is TDS ?
We keep reading or hearing about TDS. But very few of us are aware about its meaning or even the
importance of the TDS level for drinking water. TDS or Total Dissolved Solids are basically the
concentration of the impurities like dissolved particles or solids in water. It majorly
comprises of inorganic salts like calcium, magnesium, potassium and, sodium, along with some
amount of organic matter like nitrates, bicarbonates, chlorides and sulphates.
TDS levels affect the quality of water. Higher the TDS level, the more difficult and harmful it
is to consume. The particles mixed in the water would not be favourable for your body and may
lead to health issues. While it is difficult to completely remove TDS in water, water purifiers
reduce the level of TDS to make it consumable.
